Frozen Apple V – Only The Strong Survive

This year’s rendition of the Frozen Apple did not disappoint and certainly lived up to its name.  It was cold, but clear this year – a perfect night for some fun on the pond!  We played Frozen Apple Survivor!  Enough players were interested this year to do a mini-tournament.  We had four very competitive teams.  They were:

The MDD Marys

The DBI Alices

The Capesky Alberts

The MCW Francesses

The preliminary games were close with MDD beating DBI 2-0 in the first game and Capesky beating Mound Cotton in a shootout in the second.  The games were spirited and at a high level.

In the Bronze Medal game Mound Cotton bounced back for a 7-2 win over DBI.  DBI showed a lot of spirit and put in 2 goals in the second half of the game to demonstrate a never say die attitude!  Well done guys!

In the Championship game, MDD and Capesky battled the cold and each other.  Capesky came away victorious with a 4-0 victory.  The highlight of the game was a true hard work goal by Neil “Gibber” Gibson (his first in Frozen Apple history)!  I’m sure Gibber will be smiling through the pain for weeks!  Congratulations to Team Capesky – This year’s Lasker Cup Champions!!!

This year’s event was highlighted by our wonderful officiating duo of Patty “Blind Mouse” Chang and the always impeccably quaffed Kerry “Perfect Hair” Fraser.  These two gentlemen kept us all under control and Kerry certainly could not have been more gracious with his time and energy spent with all the players.

We also had some wonderful sponsors this year.  These companies deserve a big thank you!

Team sponsors – Capesky Insurance, DBI, MDD, Mound Cotton Wollen and Greengrass

Ice Time sponsors – SCA Promotions and Sportsinsurance.com

Scoreboard – MacLarens

Hockey Pucks – Vogrin & Frimet, LLP

The games were followed by a great bar night at Ryan’s Daughter, where we managed to keep Walter, our bartender, busy all night!  There was some great raffle items, some fun stories by Kerry Fraser, and lots of cheer to go around!

Of course, we do this for a good cause.  I’m very proud to say that we met the challenge set out by Marty Alpert (President and CEO of Environmental and General Liability Consulting Group).  He has put in his donation match and we raised a grand total of $20,860.  This is $440 more than we raised last year!  Well done to all who played, donated and bought raffle tickets or bid on golf with Kerry.  Thank you so much.  Ice Hockey In Harlem is thrilled and I’m sure will put it all to good use.

Game on,

Five Hole
