Frozen Apple 8.5 – We Are Still Alive
This year’s rendition of the Frozen Apple was probably the most meaningful and important Frozen Apple we’ve ever held. After being snowed out in 2020 and then cancelled in 2021 due to COVID it had been some time since we’ve been on the ice together. As we all know, it has been some time since we were together as a group and with friends and family in any large group format. Many of us have personally struggled through the pandemic and this was a great opportunity to get back to some normalcy. Also, due to COVID, our chosen charitable organization, Ice Hockey In Harlem, was also struggling so for us to be able to give back and raise some funds for them just felt right.
This year we sent two teams to the ice at Sky Rink at Chelsea Pier:
The DBI/MDD Marys
And
The Crawford/Mound Cotton Alices
In a hard fought battle, which certainly showed some rust for a lot of us Team DBI/MDD was victorious by a 6-3 margin. Congratulations to this year’s DBI/MDD Marys – This year’s Lasker Cup Champions!!!
We also had some wonderful sponsors this year. These companies deserve a big thank you! We couldn’t do this without you.
Team sponsors –DBI, MDD, Crawford, and Mound Cotton Wollen and Greengrass
Ice Time sponsors –Sportsinsurance.com, Vogrin & Frimet, LLP, McLarens, and Sedgwick
Hockey Pucks – Vogrin & Frimet, LLP
Water Bottles – MOOD&K
The games were followed by a great bar night at Mudville 9, where we packed the house with our players and supporters! There was some great raffle items, a lot of war stories, and lots of cheer to go around!
Although smaller than we have been in years past, we managed to raise some funds for IHIH. In total, we raised $8,015. Ice Hockey In Harlem is thrilled and will put it all to good use.
